Lower Primary Coordinator’s Message

This term the district nurse Ms Rosie visited the Foundation classes as part of the Primary School Nursing Program. Thank you to all parents who filled in the questionnaire in Term 1.

I would like to remind students that we are observing the winter uniform policy during Terms 2 and 3. Students are required to wear their jackets and long-sleeved polos, but they are not allowed to wear other tops under their uniform. Students are required to wear their black school shoes each day apart from their sport day. Students are not allowed to wear jewellery, other than a watch and stud earrings for girls. Please refer to our uniform policy for more information.

We held our parent/teacher interviews this term and I’m sure your child’s classroom teacher has made recommendations that you may follow up with your child. Below are some tips for assisting your children with their homework.

Students are more successful in school when their parents are involved and show interest in their child’s homework and academic progress.

Here are some helpful tips for parents:

Attend school events, such as parent-teacher conferences, to meet your child's teachers. Ask about homework policies and how you should be involved.

Some children work best after school, following a snack and play period; others may prefer to wait until after dinner.

Create a work schedule for the night, if necessary — and take time for a 15-minute break every hour, if possible.

Parents can make suggestions and help with directions, but provide time and opportunity for your child to do the learning.

Ask about assignments, quizzes, and tests. Give encouragement, check completed homework, and make yourself available for questions and concerns.

Children are more likely to follow their parents' examples than their advice. Set a good example and demonstrate reading at home. e.g. newspapers

Praise your child’s work and efforts with your family and friends.

If there are continuing problems with homework, seek advice. Talk about it with your child's teacher. Some children have trouble seeing the board and may need glasses; others might need an evaluation for a learning problem or an attention disorder.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Hope you all have a safe, well deserved term break. Term 3 commences on Monday, 16 July.

Regards,
Mrs Halide Atasay
